About Homes for Islanders
Mission Statement
To work independently and with other housing organizations throughout San Juan County to provide all types of housing and housing assistance to very low, low and moderate income residents, and other residents in need.
The Housing Problem
San Juan County has the highest median home price of any county in Washington State --$585,000 in the 3rd quarter of 2007. The gap between wages and housing costs makes it impossible for most working people to own a home. This gap will surely continue to grow, and many working families with skills valuable to the community will be forced to move away.
